Start with your Mac and recording format. For live reception, check the driver and library your receiver needs.

Made for macOS.

An SDR is only needed for live reception. Recording analysis works without one.

Include your Mac model when requesting beta access so we can confirm the right build for your setup.
For recordings
A supported file. Raw IQ also needs the correct sample rate and sample format.
For live reception
A compatible SDR with its runtime library installed.

Receiver connections.

Sigil loads device libraries at runtime. Missing hardware libraries do not prevent you from analyzing recordings.

SoapySDR support depends on your installed device module and library versions. It does not guarantee that every SoapySDR device has been tested with Sigil.

Receiver setup instructions

Start with the protocol you know.

Select the relevant decoder for a known signal. For an unfamiliar signal, investigate the modulation and parameters before choosing a decoder.

Decoder output depends on the signal, its quality, and protocol support. Automatic analysis does not decode arbitrary unknown protocols.

Recording inputs

  • SigMF captures and metadata
  • Raw IQ: float32, float64, signed 16-bit, unsigned 8-bit, signed 8-bit, and real float32
  • WAV: mono audio or stereo IQ; supported sample encodings apply
  • BLUE / CDIF and SDVR

WAV support includes 8/16-bit PCM and 32/64-bit IEEE float. 24-bit PCM and WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE are not supported in the current beta.

Exports by workflow

  • SigMF captures and WAV audio
  • Demodulated streams, to a file or stdout
  • Bits, packed bytes, and frame tables
  • Saved protocol maps for framing and field interpretation in Bits
  • MPEG transport stream and DVB GSE pcap, where the decoder provides them

Available export types depend on the workbench or decoder. These are not universal outputs for every protocol.
